From conception to childbirth, homeopathy offers gentle yet powerful support for women at all stages of reproductive health.
In this blog post, I provide an overview of how homeopathy supports conception and pregnancy, followed by specific remedy recommendations for aiding women during childbirth

Help with Conception
For those trying to conceive, homeopathic remedies can help balance the body and mind, addressing emotional and physical factors that may affect fertility. Remedies like Sepia and Pulsatilla can support emotional well-being and hormone balance, while Natrum muriaticum can assist with emotional blockages that may hinder conception.
Keep in mind that a homeopathic remedy’s results are always best when it is selected for the individual needs of each client. There are many remedies to choose from to support your reproductive health. I use the Complete Care Consultation to choose a remedy directly matched to your unique picture of health, which helps create an environment in the body that promotes fertility and aids in a healthy pregnancy and birth.
Homeopathy’s individualized approach, coupled with its gentle nature and incredibly high safety profile, makes it an excellent choice for women during this sensitive time.
Support During Pregnancy
During pregnancy, homeopathic remedies continue to provide a holistic way to support a woman’s health, emotional well-being, and comfort. For example, Nux vomica can ease morning sickness, while Arnica can help with fatigue and muscle aches.
Homeopathy can also be valuable for managing the emotional changes that often accompany pregnancy. The remedy Ignatia helps address mood swings and Gelsemium provides relief from anticipatory anxiety related to childbirth.
While these remedies may be helpful generally, remember that homeopathy is most effective when the remedy is selected to match the individual’s needs. A consultation with a professional homeopath is always advisable for using homeopathy during pregnancy.
Homeopathy: Safe for Mother, Unborn Child, and Infant
One of the most reassuring aspects of homeopathy is its safety; homeopathic remedies are highly diluted, meaning they are safe for both the mother and the developing baby. They are FDA regulated and made from all-natural substances.
Their high safety profile and long history of use in reproductive health makes homeopathic remedies an ideal choice for women looking for natural alternatives to support their pregnancy journey.
Remedies for Childbirth
As the birthing process begins, homeopathy plays a critical role in providing support during labor and delivery.
Labor and delivery are some of the most transformative, intense, and empowering experiences in a person’s life. For those seeking gentle, holistic support during this time, homeopathy can ease the physical, emotional, and energetic challenges of childbirth
Whether you’re preparing for a home birth, planning a hospital delivery, or somewhere in between, homeopathy can play a supportive role in three key areas:
- Emotional resilience – calming anxiety, fear, or overwhelm before and during labor.
- Physical support – easing pain, strengthening contractions, and aiding tissue recovery.
- Postpartum healing – addressing afterpains, bleeding, and fatigue.
Based on the books, Homeopathic Medicines for Pregnancy and Childbirth, Homeopathy for Pregnancy, Birth, and Your Baby’s First Year, and my work with birth doulas, I have selected the following remedies as the top recommendations to have on hand for labor and delivery:
1. Arnica – For Trauma, Bruising, and Recovery
Best for: Soreness, bruising, exhaustion from physical exertion, Arnica is the #1 go-to remedy for any physical trauma. Use Arnica during labor, when the mother feels sore, bruised, and exhausted.
Moms needing this remedy during childbirth are averse to touch, worn-out, and fearful. The bed feels too hard, and she can’t find a comfortable position. She might even deny being unwell even though she is suffering.
Arnica is also helpful postpartum to help expel the placenta, support overall recovery, and reduce the risk of complications related to internal bleeding or overexertion. Arnica can relieve bruising to the labia, vagina, or other soft tissue.
Typical dosage: 2 pellets of the 30C potency every 15 to 30 minutes as needed during labor, every 1 – 2 hours after delivery.
2. Caulophyllum – To Stimulate Effective Contractions
Best for: When there is prolonged or early labor with weak, irregular, or inefficient contractions, Caulophyllum can help establish contractions and induce labor.
The mom needing Caulophyllum is weak and exhausted, and so are her contractions. Labor is stalled and the mom can’t muster the energy for effective labor. Caulophyllum helps tone the uterus and bring about coordinated contractions.
During labor, the mom needing Caulophyllum desires company (but not necessarily talking!) and she can become nervous and irritable. Caulophyllum will help calm her nerves and move labor along more smoothly.
Typical dosage: 2 pellets of the 6C potency every 30–60 minutes, stopping once contractions become regular and effective.
3. Chamomilla – Extreme Intolerance of Labor Pain
Best for: Moms who say they can’t bear the pain. The mom needing Chamomilla may say the pain is so bad that she wants to die. She may demand pain relief or a c-section even though that isn’t part of her birthing plan.
She can be very angry, snappish, and argumentative, demanding things but not accepting what is given. She may even throw things and chase people from the delivery room.
Chamomilla will help calm the mom, ease her pains, and help labor proceed more smoothly.
Typical dosage: 2 pellets of the 30C potency every 30 – 60 minutes as needed.
4. Gelsemium – For Anxiety and Anticipatory Fear
Best for: If the mom feels paralyzed with fear, shaky, or overwhelmed before or during labor, Gelsemium can bring calm and a grounded sense of readiness. It’s especially helpful when labor stalls due to fear or tension.
Typical dosage: 2 pellets of the 30C potency every 30 – 60 minutes as needed.
5. Pulsatilla – Top Remedy for Breech Baby and Emotional Support
Best for: Moms who need company and lots of reassurance during labor. This mom is gentle, yielding, and mild. She can become clingy, dependent, and highly emotional during labor and delivery. She easily cries and can become depressed and irritable.
Pulsatilla is helpful for changeable labor when contractions come and go but labor doesn’t get established. Or for labor that seems to be happening, but no progress is made. Contractions are short, weak, slow down, or stop.
Pulsatilla is also a top remedy for helping to turn a breech baby. Consult a professional homeopath for more details.
